Framed Stained Glass - Protohaven x Pittsburgh Glass Center!

We team up with the Pittsburgh Glass Center, to bring you a special framed stained glass workshop! (No previous experience required)

During the first part of this 8-week workshop, you will first work with local glass artist, Rocky Kindelberger, who has been working in stained glass for forty years. He creates window panels in all shapes and styles for both interiors and exteriors. 

In this workshop, Rocky will guide participants in exploring the possibilities of colorful stained glass. You will also learn the basics for working with flat glass: cutting, grinding, foiling, and soldering. Finally, you will explore the famous Tiffany Method of construction and work with provided patterns to create a finished stained glass panel ready for display!

For the next 4 weeks of this workshop, you will come over to Protohaven to work with local artist, Sarah Nielsen, to learn your way around the woodshop through the design and build of a custom art frame for your stained glass! Sarah will demonstrate the critical tools of the wood shop in great detail so that participants learn how to operate each tool, including our basic wood shop equipment (like the table saw, bandsaw, disc sanders, and more) and our advanced millwork and joinery equipment (like the jointer, planer, and drum sander), with confidence. These four sessions are designed to have up to 2 hours of homework between sessions. 

Long story short, you’ll discover how to take rough lumber and turn it into a beautiful, mitered art frame with strong, lasting joints worthy of showcasing the beautiful stained glass piece that you created.
